Hello Loizos,If you did not resolve yet, I have a suggestion that worked for me.1 - Add the Greek language - I think you already did that.2 - Open Word and type something incorrectly (that the English spellcheck will underline)3 - Then right click on the word you have typed and select Spelling.4 - When the new window opens up with the spelling options, click on Options5 - It will open a wider window, select Language on left hand side menu (see picture)6 - There is a box name Editing language. It usually says that English Spellcheck is installed.7 - At the base of this box, there is the possibility to add another editing language. Select Greek and click Add.
It will show in the list underneath English, but it will show as Not Installed.8 - Click on the Not installed link and it will take you to the Microsoft page for you to download the language pack for spellcheck. You will need to select your Word version (2010,2013,2016) and whether your system is 64 or 32 bit.
The editing packs canbe quite big (over 200MB).Follow the steps indicated in the Microsoft page.Good luck.
Hi Bob,The concern that you encounter regarding the spell check can be triggered if theSpanish language is added in the Language group onWord 2016. To confirm if it is added, follow these steps:. Open Word.
Select the Review tab. Click Language, and then select Set Proofing Language. In the Language dialog box, select Spanish, and then select theDetect language automatically check box to disable the feature.Once you're done, check if the issue persists. In addition, you can check thison how to manage automatic language detection for Office.Let us know should you need further assistance. Display the Language dialog box by clicking Review Language Set Proofing Language. To prevent Word from trying to guess the language, and change it at the insertion point, clear the 'Detect language automatically' option. Select the language you wantand then click Set As Default.
Restart Word and, if prompted, click to confirm that you want to change the Normal template.Note that changing the default language applies to future documents based on your Normal template. For existing documents, you can change the language of the Normal style, but often you may have to manually re-apply the correct language to the selection. You can use Ctrl+A to select the main body of a document. Then click Review Language Set Proofing Language and choose the appropriate language (even if it already appears to be selected) and click OK (donot click Set As Default again). Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP Volunteer Moderator Note that MVPs do not work for Microsoft MVP program information:. The problem is that I don't want spell check to recommend Spanish words. When am typing something in English it selectively underscores certain words as misspelled. The when I right click on that word it only offers Spanish options.I have opened the Language Preferences and deleted all reference to Spanish.
In the Proofing box, I only have English.I have re-booted Word after making these fixes. It still does the same thing. It selectively chooses some words that it wants to change to Spanish. Here is an example: ' The Saticoy Street entrance ' The word 'entrance' is underscored, but the other words are not. Have you turned off 'Detect language automatically' in the Language dialog box (Review Language Set Proofing Language)?Have you checked which language Word thinks has been applied to the problematic words?
Remember that language is a text property in Word; you can apply it to a range of text characters or even to a single character. The Language dialog box will tell youwhich language Word has applied to the current word, and you will be able to change it.As I wrote, the easiest way is to select the whole document (with Ctrl+A) and then open the Language dialog box and re-apply the desired language (even if it already appears to be selected). Confirm the setting by clicking OK. Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP Volunteer Moderator Note that MVPs do not work for Microsoft MVP program information:.
